Kremlin Responds to Trump, Putin, Xi Meeting Rumors

(MENAFN) The Kremlin has declined to comment on the potential for a meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin, U.S. President Donald Trump, and Chinese President Xi Jinping during the upcoming World War II commemoration in China, according to spokesman Dmitry Peskov.

The ceremony, which will mark the 80th anniversary of Japan’s surrender in WWII, is scheduled to take place in Beijing in early September.

Putin had accepted Xi's personal invitation to attend while the Chinese leader was in Moscow for the Victory Day celebrations earlier in May.

Peskov responded to reports from a news agency, expressing ignorance about any potential trilateral meeting.

"We know nothing about the possibility of such a meeting," he stated, addressing a claim by a newspaper published on Friday that suggested Beijing might be planning a summit between the three leaders.

In a recent statement, Trump revealed that President Xi had invited him and First Lady Melania Trump to visit China during what he described as a “very good” phone call centered around trade discussions.

However, neither Washington nor Beijing have confirmed any specific date for the visit.

Experts cited by the newspaper indicated that the anniversary event could serve as a symbolic occasion for the three world powers to engage in dialogue amidst growing global tensions.

The British newspaper also noted that Beijing had seemingly "tacitly encouraged speculation" about such a summit by not denying similar reports from a Japanese news agency last month.
