Earthquake with magnitude of six hit Indonesia

(MENAFN) A powerful earthquake with a magnitude of 6 hit the West Papua region of Indonesia on Saturday, according to the nation’s Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency. The tremor occurred at a shallow depth of 10 kilometers (6.2 miles) and was located approximately 64 kilometers (about 40 miles) from Sorong, the regional capital, striking at 12:31 p.m. local time (05:31 GMT).

Different agencies reported slightly varying magnitudes: the German Centre for Georesearch (GEOFON) registered it at 5.9, while the U.S. Geological Survey recorded it as 5.7.

Authorities confirmed that no tsunami warning was issued following the quake, and there have been no reports of casualties or damage to infrastructure.
